Voting in the 2026 Scottish Youth Parliament Elections will open at 8am on Monday 2nd November and closes at midnight on Sunday 15th November 2026.
The Scottish Youth Parliament (SYP) is the democratically elected voice of Scotland’s young people. We platform the voices of young people in spaces where decision makers are, at a local, national and international level. We exist to make change in young people’s lives, to think differently about issues, and to create a meaningful impact that makes Scotland the best place to grow up.
Every two years, around 160 MSYPs are elected to represent young people in every part of Scotland and to campaign for positive change.
Members of the Scottish Youth Parliament (MSYPs) represent young people in two ways:
1. In your local constituency - SYP constituencies are the same as the Scottish Parliament constituencies, so you can find out what your constituency is by putting your postcode into the MSP search on the Scottish Parliament website here. 2. Through voluntary organisations which have representative MSYPs - Young people who are a member of a voluntary organisation can vote in their voluntary organisation and their local constituency. To vote in a voluntary organisation, please go to https://elections.syp.org.uk/elections/.

How to vote:
The SYP elections use the Scottish Single Transferrable Vote (Scottish STV) system - a system of preferential voting. When you vote, you will be asked to rank the candidates in order of preference, in order 1,2,3… etc, instead of just choosing one candidate. This means the result is based more on consensus or agreement.
You don’t have to vote for every candidate,
